Metaverse is NOT all fun and games: Here are 4 practical applications

  • Owning a plot of virtual land and using it to build a house, or construct a building that you can rent out - or use the land to farm products you can sell online
  • Buying a cool piece of virtual art like a drawing of a cool stoned ape… and also having it allows you access to VIP events or special product offers. Socialising through virtual reality with your friends whilst you are all in different countries…
  • Attending a work meeting as your “digital” self at a virtual office location whilst you are still in your pyjamas on the couch…

Imagine a virtual world in which people live, work, shop, and interact with others -- all from the comfort of their couch in the physical world. This is known as the Metaverse.

In the metaverse, people will be able to communicate with each other and virtually build out the community. In the metaverse, digital currency is used to buy clothes -- or weapons in the case of video games -- and many other items.  The Metaverse is considered the next evolution of the internet and it can, and will, take many forms, including gaming, online communities, and business meetings where people collaborate via a digital copy or avatar of themselves.

With the dawn of Web 3.0., we are already seeing companies like Decentraland, Sandbox, and Meta (formerly Facebook) creating worlds that are completely virtual reality (VR). We are also hearing about mainstream companies like Nike, Samsung, and Price Waterhouse Coopers buying land and buildings in these virtual worlds so that they can have a presence.

This new “virtual” space is what many tech innovators believe is the future of mankind. Today, it’s mostly used for fun and games and it’s widely known for gaming and art applications. While this expression of the Metaverse is an entertaining and fast-growing industry, there are also very practical solutions that are being created through the Metaverse - and they are probably things you didn’t think of!

1.Medicine

One of the most exciting innovations taking advantage of the Metaverse is the progression of health services and medicine dispensing.

The UAE announced that it invests heavily in “Medical Tourism” through the Metaverse.

Their goal? Treat patients remotely.

UAE-based healthcare provider, Thumbay Group has plans to create a fully functional virtual hospital where patients can visit using avatars.

Businesses offering Metaverse-based services are not unusual in the  UAE. In this corner of the world, they’ve already launched the world’s first “happiness” customer service center with Metaverse technologies. The UAS Ministry of Health and Community Protection (MOHAP) designed an interactive and immersive experience for people to instantly teleport into the world of MetaHealth and choose to speak with a real employee from the customer happiness centre.

These are just a couple of examples of how the Metaverse will be used within the Healthcare industry.

2.Education

One of the most value-added experiences supplied by the Metaverse could be for our next generation of students. The pandemic and era of remote learning made it clear that  online-based classes are not as effective as face-to-face classes. The issues with the current technologies' lack of ability to create supportive learning experiences online led to some countries o enacting protocols for early returns back to class and this potentially risked student and teacher health. It became clear that we do need a way to educate people remotely but in a way that can be interactive and tactile.

Enter the Metaverse - one day, students will be able to truly experience what they’re learning (no matter where they are) through augmented reality. It will feel like they are in class, in person and they will feel “connected” in a way that current technology doesn’t allow.

3.Historical Perspective

The idea of time travel, to explore and experience different times in our past has always been at the center of many people’s “wishlist”. We know that such a trip back in time is likely not possible but what if we took the idea behind it and went back to look at previous times without actually being there? What lessons could we learn that would assist decision-makers of the present day?

With the Metaverse, there is no need to go back in time to live historical moments or see how people lived in the past. The Metaverse can be used to reconstruct these past times

The Metaverse would allow us to travel through time, see the evolution of Ancient Rome, walk through the crowds of the French Revolution of 1789, and maybe even roam with Dinosaurs! History would become more alive, more visual, more realistic, and be something we could experience better than ever before.

4.Disability

A large percentage of our population has disabilities that prevent them from experiencing every aspect of life. A virtual world directly connected to our brain would be, for these people, a chance to live like everyone else - if they wanted to.

The Metaverse would be a place without any discrimination - it wouldn’t matter if, say, you had a physical disability, in these limitless worlds, you are first and foremost what you want to be and you can go where you want to go. The Metaverse would be a place where quadriplegics could run, deaf people could hear, blind people could see, etc… the options would be limitless

The new world of the Metaverse will merge with our reality in so many more ways as it continues to develop and mature. All these developments are still in the early days but we’ve already seen their effects on social media, pop culture, and investments.

The reality is this is the opportunity to not only learn about the Metaverse opportunities so we can thrive in the future but also take advantage of this emerging technology to make profits from investing in up-and-coming projects. . So how do you invest and grow your wealth through the Metaverse phenomenon? You will need to learn what that opportunity is!

Like it was at the start of the internet itself, any change in the technology world poses two sides of a coin and a choice for us. Grow and learn…. or get left behind and miss out... People that can adapt easily will reap the benefits of the future. Those that can’t adapt or who leave it too late will, unfortunately, get left behind.

Are you ready to choose which path you will take?
